Using a Bike

Learn where you can bring a rental bike, and how to get on and off campus.

A

Where You Can Go

You are free to ride anywhere throughout your active session, including shops, residences, and campus facilities. However, to end your trip, you must return the bike to a dropoff zone to end the rental and avoid extra fees.

B

Getting On & Off Campus

Hatfield Campus

Main (Roper Street) & University Road Entrances

Ask a security guard at the boom gates to scan your student card and then walk through a boom gate.

Lunnon Road Entrance

If the small gate by the turnstiles is not locked, tap your student card on one of the turnstiles, turn the turnstile without walking through, and then open and go through the gate. Close the gate behind you. Otherwise, if the gate is locked, go through the boom gates. Ask a security guard at the boom gates to scan your student card and then walk through a boom gate.

Prospect Street Entrance

Cycle through the boom gates. You will almost never be asked to scan your student card.

Hillcrest Campus

Lunnon Road Entrance

If your student card works with the bike turnstiles, tap your student card on a bike turnstile and go through. Otherwise, go through the boom gates. Ask a security guard at the boom gates to scan your student card and then walk through a boom gate.

TuksVillage Entrance

Cycle through the boom gates. You will almost never be asked to scan your student card.

South Street & Burnett Street Entrances

Cycle through the boom gates. This part of campus is open to the public, and you will never be asked to scan your student card.

C

Campus Navigation & Rules

Whenever possible, please stick to roads rather than pedestrian pathways when navigating campus. If you do ride on pathways, maintain a safe speed and yield the right-of-way to pedestrians at all times. Never leave a bike blocking building entrances, emergency exits, or wheelchair ramps. Review our parking guidelines to ensure you avoid fines for improper parking.

D

Safety & Maintenance

We strongly advise wearing a helmet for all rides. Please note that Bunnihop does not provide helmets or safety gear, so riders must bring their own.

Before riding, perform a quick safety check: test the handbrakes, ensure the tires are firm, and verify the seat post is locked. If you notice any defects, report them immediately on the support page.

E

Pit Stops & Intermediate Parking

If you need to step into a class or shop mid-ride, do not end your rental (for Day rides). Instead, lock the bike and come back to it later. Your timer will continue running while paused. When you return, re-enter your code found under Active Rides on the Home page to unlock the bike and resume your journey.

For Day rides, the bike may be kept at your residence overnight and during the day, as long as it's returned to a dropoff zone the next day before the timer is up.
